Most Demanding Sports On The Cardio Vascular System

Monday, September 14th, 2009

For those of you who don’t know CV (cardio vascular) fitness refers to the ability of the heart and lungs to provide the body with enough nutrients (mainly oxygen) for it to function during activity and remove waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid also. The more efficient and well trained the CV system is, the greater the intensity or duration of exercise can be. Sports like sprinting and discus do not work the CV system very much at all, as muscles do not use oxygen in fast powerful events. However, there are a good few sports that require the CV system to be working well. Here are 3 of the top sports for this type of fitness.

Skiing. The variety of this sport known as cross-country skiing is actually the most demanding off all sports on the CV system. This is because competitive events usually take place over very long distances and skiers encounter lots of different inclines to conquer. Additionally, because almost all the muscles of the body are working at the same time in this sport, the CV system need to be in great shape to make sure each of them gets the nutrients they need. So if you’re looking to build your CV system, switch your snowboards for skis next time you’re on the slopes.

Cycling. Riding a bike, especially in competitive road racing, can cause the heart and lungs to work overtime as they attempt to feed the large leg muscles. The 7 time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong is testament to that, having one of the highest VO2 max scores of any athlete. This means that his body was able to take in and process more oxygen per minute than almost any other athlete on the planet. Based on that evidence, if you’re thinking about getting rid of your old cycling machine or second hand bikes, you might want to think again.

Kayaking. Despite the fact a kayaker uses their lower body very little in this sport compared to most aerobically demanding disciplines, his or her CV system still gets a pounding. This is largely down to the fact that kayakers use their upper-bodies a vast amount and there are hundreds of smaller muscles here demanding the large supply of oxygen and removal of lots of carbon dioxide. For second hand kayaks and extreme sports equipment check out EST.

Cycling Sunglasses

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Sunglasses are very popular by almost every age. However the sunglasses have another useful aspect not just being good looking… What are the cycling sunglasses?
Dirt, insects, the wind and sunlight, all these become real problems when you have to ride the bike at high speeds. Cycling sunglasses therefore have multiple protective functions, allowing the biker to clearly see the way and feel comfortable at the same time. Besides the possibility of foreign bodies entering the eyes, the highest risk you expose yourself to, when riding without sunglasses, is eye damage because of ultraviolet and infrared radiations. High quality shades make the difference between amateurs and pros. There are many ways of choosing the cycling sunglasses, and we’ll only go through a few of the main criteria of selection.

The right pair of cycling sunglasses is sometimes hard to find. Lots of users are keen on a certain brand or product and when it goes out of stock or the style disappears, they are at a loss about what to find as substitutes for their old cycling sunglasses. fit well on the face, and this applies to wraparounds in particular. Such designs will keep pollutants,  sun radiation and dirt away from your eyes. Check the frames of the cycling sunglasses for air holes, because wraparounds could get foggy because of moisture trapped inside.

Many pros choose cycling sunglasses with interchangeable lenses. You should change the lenses depending on weather variations because the needs differ on bright sunshine or dull overcast days. Cycling sunglasses with gray lenses work great for almost all types of weather. However, try yellow lenses when it’s foggy and amber ones when you have to pay more attention to the terrain variations. Interchangeable cycling sunglasses are definitely more expensive, but they are definitely worthy the investment if cycling is a life style for the wearer.

Depending on individual needs, cycling sunglasses could be made on prescription. The sight accuracy or integrity may have a lot to suffer without the right eye correction, therefore, never neglect such conditions when choosing sun shades. Some users even choose to match prescription lenses with cycling sunglasses by a mechanism that allows the prescription lenses to get fit behind the standard cycling ones. As for the average price, the best cycling sunglasses cost between $100 and $200, but some good items could be purchased for less than that. Sports stores often have sales and promotions and you can get some serious discounts too, which should make quality eyewear more accessible to the average user.

Purchasing the Right Cycling Gear

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Whether you are just getting interested in the game of cycling or have been an enthusiastic cycle rider for a bit it’s critical that you are supplied with the correct cycling clothing.  Cycling clothing will not only help by keeping you safe and comfortable during your bicycle ride but as well keep you looking trendy and at the head of your game.  When it comes to cycling clothing, there are some pieces especially which are thought to be as the elementals and which any bike rider, noob to classy, should have in their wardrobe.  At first you may be discouraged as you could be worried by the fact that you aren’t in a position to afford the custom cycling jerseys and pro gear that some riders can, but you’ve got to know this isn’t going to have any effect on your performance.  As long as you are choosing the proper pieces, you can find just as top spec cycling clothing apart from a less expensive cost.  Cycling jackets and cycling jerseys are really one of the first things that you need to be purchasing.

They may keep the sun from burning your arms when riding in the day and keep you warm during cooler weather.  You wish to try to discover a light-weight water-resistant jacket, and when you are out on the market for your jacket you must look for a cycling cap, bike leg warmers or maybe some knee heaters to keep you on the trails even if the weather may not be the nicest.

Helmet Another piece of cycling clothing that is vital is the helmet.  It is critical that you wear a helmet when cycling, and you take a little time to select the right one.  Remember that you only wish to buy helmets that are approved by the suitable authorities.

You also wish to try on different helmets until you find one that fits your head nicely.  It shouldn’t be too tight or too loose, and should touch the crown, sides, front and back of your head.  Also be aware of that if at any time your helmet ever suffers any damage, the best idea is to just go out and get a new one instead of making an attempt to fix the one that you have.  Helmets are cheap enough this isn’t going to put you out much and it’ll make sure that you are safe and secure while cycling.  The worst mistake that some folks make is supposing that because cycling is a low impact sport that there is no need to have the right cycling clothing and gear.  This is totally wrong, and you can suffer major harm if you are not wearing your helmet and other defending gear.

Science Applied to Make Cycling More Comfortable and It’s Worked – SelleSMP SMP4Bike Saddles

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Le Tour de France 2009 Podio general 1

Retro cycling jerseys are becoming more and more popular amongst bike riders these days, specially with cyclists that also have a passion for looking great and having a little fun with the way they look while they ride their bicycles. Some believe this popularity for retro cycling jerseys all started when Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France championship while he and his team were wearing a retro cycling jerseys that featured an image of the old U.S. Mail logo from over 30 years ago.

The science behind a comfortable bike saddle.

A rigorous study of the benefits of the SMP4Bike saddle for long distance cyclists resulted in an article, authored by Breda, G. Piazza, N. Bernardi, V. Lunardon, E. Caruso, A. being published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine 2005, Vol 2; Number 5 pages 605 – 611

Development of a New Geometric Bicycle Saddle for the Maintenance of Genital-Perineal Vascular Perfusion The Authors – from the Department of Urology San Bassiano Hospital, Bassano del Grappa Department of Urology SS. Giovanni e Paolo Hospital, Venice; Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, San Bassiano Hospital, Bassano del Grappa – set out to identify a bicycle saddle model suitable for cyclists that cover long distances that is capable of limiting compression of the structures of the pelvic floor and, thus, protecting the blood perfusion of the penis and preventing possible consequences in erection.

An online company that has some lovely older images on their retro cycling jerseys is the retro image apparel company. Images used for their collection come from the images contained within the ‘Horton collection line’ these include such famous images as:

These authors have proved that to protect penis blood perfusion the important factor is not so much the extent of the saddle padding as its width. A wide saddle furnishes enough support to the pelvic bones and limits the compression of the perineal tissues. The absence of the saddle beak prevents clipping the perineal blood vessels around the pubic arch.

A saddle with these characteristics, however, is not suitable to professional bikers. The aim of our work has been to identify a product that had the characteristics to preserve penis blood perfusion and at the same time had a geometrical design compatible with the biker’s requirements.

In the study, the SMP saddle is shown to be by far the most efficient in protecting the blood perfusion of the penis compared to one of the saddles most frequently used (at that time) by professional cyclists.

Genesis Unveil New 2010 Bike Lineup

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Less than a month before release, Genesis has finally released details and images for their 2010 lineup. Despite the bikes being the 2010 range for Genesis, they are actually released this coming September so you don’t have to wait as long as initially thought.

Genesis have decided to return to the road bike market this year with their 2010 lineup. The first bikes up on the list are the Aether 10 and Aether 20 racing bikes.

The well designed Aether is mainly suitted for cycle training or daily commuting. Both models feature an ALX-9 aluminium frame. However, this comes at a price. The cheapest of the two models, the Aether 10, costs £599.99 and features quality parts from Shimano and Sora. To go for the next up model, the Aether 20, it will cost another £200 on top of the Aether 10. Part of the £799.99 price tag goes towards paying for the mix of Shimano Tiagra and Sora parts that the bike is made of.

Vapour is the next bike in their 2010 lineup. This model features an ALX-9 6069 aluminium frame and will cost £849.99. To go alongside your lightweight frame, you also get a mix of Shimano Tiagra and Sora parts, plus a new front hanger mount, designed by Genesis to supply better braking.

The Flyer is the third bike on the 2010 lineup. This one is a singlespeed bike and features a number of stylish bonuses. This particular model features a white chain, chrome cable clips, all attached to a Reynolds 520 steel framework. This good looking bike is alot less than it looks, at only £599.99. One odd thing about this bike is that is comes with nothing to attach your bike accessories, I guess Genesis must have assumed that if you own one of these, you don’t sweat through your cycle clothing.

The road bikes announced were just a side to your main course, the huge array of mountain bikes announced. The first one is the Core which comes in two varieties. The Core is available as the Core 40 for £999.99 or the Core 50 for £1,199.99.

The next one up is the Alpitude costing £1,699.99, not to be mistaken with the Altitude, features a Reynolds 853 steel frame, perfect for long trails.

For a cheaper mountain bike, you should be looking towards the iO. There are two different version, the eight speed one which costs £1,099.99, or the cheaper, singlespeed version for £599.99. Both of these models come with a standard Reynolds 520 steel framework.

The final bike in the lineup is the Altitude, and it comes in 5 different models. The two cheapest models, the Altitude 00 (£799.99) and the Altitude 10 (£999.99) both come with a Reynolds 520 steel frame. As the altitude number goes higher, so does the price, the next up is the Altitude 20. This model features a high quality Reynolds 853 steel frame and will set you back a whopping £1,449.99. If we overlook the 4th model and jump straight to the impressive Altitude Ti, also the most expensive model. The Ti comes with a titanium frame and a price tag to match, £2,799.99.
